stephane-halleux2

We posted about Halleux a little while back, but with the launch of his new website we couldn’t resist spreading the word again.

Spend some time looking through his portfolio and get ready to see some pieces in person very soon. We hear Device Gallery may have some of his new work at an upcoming show (more on this later!).

There is something fascinating about closing your eyes and imagining how a song might feel when accompanied by film. Radiohead’s famous title track from this mix represents one of these powerful moments in film, and it got me thinking about soundtracks ever since. Certain songs began to stick out from the rest. They seemed to hold some element that I couldn’t put my finger on, but that undeniably conjured images in my mind of hypothetical scenes from movies that didn’t exist.

I am a sucker for those incredible moments when the marriage of song and film nears perfection, one of my favorites being Nico’s cover of These Days (which Jackson Browne apparently wrote when he was 16 years old! I love wikipedia.) in The Royal Tenenbaums. I’m pretty sure this is why I love Wes Anderson movies… he pulls that shit all the time.

This mix is the first of many imaginary soundtracks that are floating around in my head. If it sparks any ideas for movies or even single scenes, drop a comment below.

I love all kinds of music, but I love certain kinds more. And here they are. This type of mix is what gets me through my day, and inspires me to practice being a good person and make fun art.

Hope you guys enjoy it. Sorry I don’t know how to make sweet blends and fabulous DJ techniques. So take time to enjoy the silence between the tracks too :P

Farewell, crates! It’s been fun.

We accepted these crates, originally used for high end museum art transport, to use as staging for the custom bikes shown at Reinventing the Wheel San Diego in September ’08. It was at that point that we voluntarily took on the responsibility to give these crates the longest life possible, circumventing their original path straight to the landfill.

We’re happy to pass them along to some creative folks who have a vision for them at Burning Man, and we’ve asked them to send us photographs so that we can all watch them travel along their way. We hope to give you an update on where they call home in 2009…and 2019!

We’re proud of you MCASD.

A month after bringing Fallen Fruit down from LA, and a week after a sold-out screening of Beautiful Losers (which was apparently a difficult sell to the institution’s higher-ups, but don’t get us started), the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego had the wisdom to highlight local artist Wes Bruce’s Evidence of Searching at last night’s TNT. Here’s a photo journal from the install & exhibition.

Wednesday:

p10201771

Early AM on Broadway on the way to MCA for the install day 1, we saw the man with the coolest suit in town.

p1020179

Wes eyeballs the gates to the fortress.

p1020181

Right this way…

p1020183

A pickup full of 4′x8′ modular walls, designed and built by Sanctuary143′s Jeff Faeth and Wes for his MCA edition of Evidence of Searching.

p1020191

Some beautiful light in the early morn. Zack was hungover from night golf but charged ahead in full force.

p1020283

Jeff’s mockup. A-Team style.

p1020196

Jeff surveys the west wing, about halfway there!

Thursday:

p1020291

Backstage during TNT. That’s a 10′ wall people!

p1020300

More backstage… Joel P. West on the iPod.

p1020234

A room within a room!

p1020229

p1020255

p1020241

While people browsed the installation, others were busy cutting & pasting.

p1020235

A group Evidence‘ fest ensued.

p1020272

Friends, family and strangers gathered thoughts side-by-side in deep concentration.

p1020303

A good time was had by all.

p1020318

Writer and Joel P. West played sets across the street. Photos are lacking here because I was busy listening.

p1020336

On the walk to the car… a few peeps were still snippin’ away upstairs.

Thanks for having us Wes!

crate

The crates used for display at Reinventing the Wheel at The Logan are now available on a first-come first-serve basis! These crates were originally built and used for high end/museum art transport and are of very high quality construction/materials.

Some suggested uses:

-module display tables for architecture schools

-sculpture display for galleries

-materials for sculpture or panels/frames

-building materials for community project

We’re sure you can dream something up.

UPDATE: The crates have departed and are on the way to their next life!
