Sandee Manuel and Keikichi Honna make the journey from Oceanside to Tijuana to check out materials for a sculptural installation in the works for the CONSPIRE event on January 17th:
Today we met the first born of our 20 baby Jesuses – he’s pretty heavy for a newborn, pale and has empty eye sockets but otherwise pretty cute.
I’ve enclosed a few pics on our trek back to The U.S.
We encountered many churro vendors, juggling kids, and men carrying large hand-woven baskets. With every basket seller Keikichi would quietly chime in “Snake Charmer.”

Keikichi stands at the threshold as the life-size custom built pinata prepares for its journey across the Mexico-US border from Tijuana to Reinventing the Wheel San Diego.
Sanctuarian to Sanctuarian: The “Faster, Faster!” event poster from Josh Higgins has arrived!
Also check out Josh’s Hurricane Relief Poster Project design and his awesome involvement with the So-Cal Fire Poster Project. (And while you’re at it, take a gander at his band Fluf!)
A big thank you for our printing sponsor, Neyenesch, for making Josh’s artwork look fantastic on those postcards you’ve all been seeing around town.
Get a sneak peek of works by artists and collaborators for the upcoming Reinventing the Wheel San Diego show here! Download a PDF of the postcard.
Keep those calendars marked: Saturday, September 27.

Thatcher’s hand built BMX with sidecar comes to life on the streets of Leucadia.

For the upcoming Reinventing the Wheel show, Tijuana based artist Jorge Tellaeche works on “El Origen,” interpreting with modern designs the natural cycles of time. Like usual, we’re blown away!

That vintage pedicab that’s seen better days gets transformed for Reinventing the Wheel as Acamonchi adds on the next layer of paint and the first of many (we’re assuming) stencils. Thanks to Artist & Craftsman Supply for the awesome paint donation and Velo Culture for the loving repairs! (Check out more photos.)

After a generous donation from our friends down at Artist & Craftsman Supply in San Diego, Acamonchi was locked and loaded with 8 cans of Montana Gold and the blank canvas of a reclaimed pedicab waiting for its moment to become art for the upcoming Reinventing the Wheel show.
That moment has officially begun, as Acamonchi laid down the first few psychedelic layers of paint today.
Enjoy, fellow Sanctuarians!

We’re reinventing the wheel as we speak… Here’s a peek at Thatcher’s work in progress – BMX with sidecar. It’s an art form. More to come.
